The Hero Project

The Hero Project began in 2016 with a focus on celebrating local heroes, both those who have helped create our heritage from the past and those who are helping create our legacy for the future.

During our short time we have worked with many schools in the Coalville area on heritage projects such as the George Smith exhibition where pupils learnt about the brickyard manager who fought for better conditions for children, women and canal boat people.

We have arranged holiday clubs and evening activities for young people.

Our Famous Fifty exhibition has energised so many communities – schools, history groups, the Job Centre ……. Each has taken a life sized soldier to decorate – each one representing one of the 50 local men who were the first volunteers to serve in the trenches during the First World War.
